New People

Something to remember about humans is that they think they’re all unique – which they sort-of are, just like us, but just like you can guess another dog’s temperament by what they look like and how they are acting, you can do the same with humans too. Just remember that they mostly have a low eq, so may not pick up on your body language well. It’s always worth exaggerating for a new one in case they aren’t sure – and remember many of them have been taught to be frightened of dogs – and that means any dog. I’ve come across some, especially ones just leaving human puppy stage (that’s around 10 to 12 for human readers -ed) who will run in terror from a cockapoo puppy who’s just trying to play with them – as if it was an angry Rottweiler adult (with apologies to my Rotweiler friends, I know you are mostly lovely, but occasionally one of you can be a bit scary – I’ll tell you some stories about my friend Rocky one day – he was a magnificent Rotty, alpha in the area but lovely with it.)

Anyway, best way I find to approach new people is to go past them then check out their scent – that shows a dog a lot about anyone. If they check out OK then go see them properly. Watch your humans though – if they get uptight it might be wise to back off………
