The Inner Rotweiller

Now humans have an inner child, so I guess it’s no surprise that dogs have something a little similar.

However, as far as I can tell, theirs is a little different.

Betty is a lovely dog, she regularly gets oohs and aahs when we’re out for walks, with people stopping to talk to her (and often ignoring me!) calling her pretty and cute and such – aided and abetted by her habit of going up to strangers and asking to be stroked.

When she’s at home and someone comes to the door, then it’s a different story.

As someone approaches any of the outside doors, the mild mannered friendly fluff-ball metamorphoses into a terrifying beast on a mission. She barks at machine gun speed and is off out through any doors between her and the house door that is in danger like a bullet from a gun. If she has access to the door, she then hits it flat out with outstretched front paws or stands there barking until the ‘danger’ has passed.
